Everyone Sing! is a project run by Southampton Music Services and is designed to bring the elderly together with school children, to foster well-being and communication between the generations through the medium of singing. Each group meets separately and together on a regular basis. Friendships are formed; the children develop an appreciation of what life was like for children in the 1930s and 1940s (the war years). Likewise, the older folk learn about what it's like for children growing up today - their challenges, hopes and aspirations. What we, as facilitators learn, is that despite the changes in the world, many of the issues and preoccupations of children remain the same across time. They all want security, love and friendship. And of course, the freedom of expression and love of singing is universal - across time and across the generations. |
